In this autumn term I take the psychology class, so I could understand the perception more deeply.
Perception is strange. We tend to think that the world we see now each other is absolute and that everyone or every living things see the same world, but it is not true.
I will give some examples of the sense of sight.
The plant-eating animals like rabbits which eyes are on the side of the face are not stereo. It is hard for human to imagine the non-stereo world, but they do.
Some people see the world without colors. In the previous class, some section-mates gave the presentation about one novel "the Giver" and explained that the character who do not have any feeling cannot see the color in this novel, which may be the representation that people think the color relates to the human mind strongly.
In addition, I got shocked after knowing that some people cannot recognize what it is, even though they see it. For example, one man or woman see the pencil. They can sketch it on the paper, but they cannot recognize that it is a pencil.
Like this, I got know that the living things including human see many different world each other. The different way of perception directly connects to the different world. We may have trouble because of it, but we cannot change the way of perception itself. Therefore, we should know that we see the different world from others, and respect the every ways to see the world.

Reaction to Barna
At first, I will talk about my experience. I have been living in Kanagawa prefecture, but my grandfather and relatives live in Iwate prefecture. I do not used to listening the Iwate dialect, so I cannot understand what they say when I visited them. I always have difficulty though we are both Japanese, so we will have more difficulty when we communicate with foreigners.
In ARW class, I discussed about what culture is. I answered that culture is the products of people's lives. After one person lived, he or she left something, for example, a commodity, an art of art, a dissertation, food or a custom so on. They are influenced or produced by one person's life, and then make the culture, I think. I think the culture which is the fruit of individuals' lives is very sacred and important.
It is sure that many different culture make the stumbling blocks in intercultural communication and then confusion. However, the difference of cultures should not be blamed because it is equivalent to blame people's lives.
To tell the truth, I have never gone abroad, so I cannot actually feel the stumbling blocks in international communication. I had difficulty even when I went to Iwate, so if I go abroad, I will get shocked and have great difficulty. However, I hope to accept the difference of culture and try to find other characteristics.
I want to go abroad early.

summer & autumn
At first, I will talk about the summer vacation.
I spent much time to work part-time. I teach Japanese to the elementary school students. I have to prepare lessons, which was very hard. However, it was not every day that I worked, so it was not so painful.
I was going to visit Iwate prefecture to meet my grandfather and relatives, but in fact I didn't. It was because one of my relatives had an accident and got serious injured, so my family hesitated to go. It was sad, but I could go to another trip with ICU festival committee members. It was very interesting, so I could have a good time.
Next, I will talk about my hopes about ARW Autumn.
To tell the truth, I did not think about ELP before I entered ICU. I did not hope to improve my English skills. Even now I do not hope so strongly.
However, I feel simply happy when I succeed in telling someone what I want to tell in English. On the contrary, I suffer bitter disappointment when I failed to do so. One of the reasons that I failed is because I do not know many vocabularies, so in ARW autumn class, I want to learn many words and practice to use them.
I do not the strong wish, for example, "I want to work using English in the future!" or " I want to communicate all over the world!", but I want to make efforts to communicate with friends and teachers around me.

Summer Reading Reaction
The book title I read for summer reading is "Girl With a Pearl Earring", which was written by Tracy Chevalier.
The reason why I chose it is because I like the painting having the same name. The girl in the painting is mysterious. We cannot get to know who she is or what she is doing from it, but she is charming. I was interested in how Tracy Chevalier imagined and created the story behind this painting, so I decided to read it.
Main characters are Griet, who is sixteen years old, her family, Johannes Vermeer and his family, Pieter the son, who work for the meat stalls.
One day, Griet began to work for the Vermeers as a maid. At first she did housework or clean the studio where Vermeer painted, but gradually she came to help him in painting, for example, grinding colors or acting the substitute model secretary. On the other hand, her family lost their warmth. Pieter the son came to love her and proposed, but she hesitated. Eventually, Vermeer had Griet herself act as a model, and when she became eighteen years old, he completed "Girl With a Pearl Earring," but his wife got to know that he had painted Griet with his wife's earring secretary. Griet left from them, and went to Pieter the son. When ten years had passed, Vermeer died. Griet was given his wife's pearl following his will. She changed it to money, and decided to hide and own it forever.
It is sure that Griet cannot live absolutely freely, but she always acts following her own feeling. This novel describes the transition of one girl who has a hard time but tries to live strongly of her own free will. It is one of the themes of this novel.
On the other hand, many other women appears in this novel. They are not always happy. Vermeer's wife, Catharina, is one of them. The last scene where she gave Griet her earrings was impressive. I like this scene because she expresses her real intention. She usually did not seem to worry about love given by Vermeer, but she was nealy in tears when she transfer the earrings. The truth is that she was hurt because of insensitive act by her husband.
After reading this novel, I came to pay attention to the way of women's lives. Women are often not free very much and affected strongly by men, especially in the past. I want to read other books paying attention to it.
